We present an adaptive unequal error protection (UEP) strategy built on the 1-D interleaved parity Application Layer Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) code for protecting the transmission of stereoscopic 3D video content encoded with Multiview Video Coding (MVC) through IP-based networks. Our scheme targets the minimization of quality degradation produced by packet losses during video transmission in time-sensitive application scenarios. To that end, based on a novel packet-level distortion model, it selects in real time the most suitable packets within each Group of Pictures (GOP) to be protected and the most convenient FEC technique parameters, i.e., the size of the FEC generator matrix. In order to make these decisions, it considers the relevance of the packet, the behavior of the channel, and the available bitrate for protection purposes. Simulation results validate both the distortion model introduced to estimate the importance of packets and the optimization of the FEC technique parameter values

[EN] The present paper focuses on the historic Can Bagaria factory in Cornellá de Llobregat, Barcelona. From its contextualization and constructive characterization, the culminating moment of construction is exemplified in a time characterized by the industrial boom and technological innovation (19th and 20th centuries). The development of iron and cast iron structures, in combination with traditional brick masonry, helped the gestation of a new type of porticoed, bidirectional and isostatic architectural type, of which Can Bagaria is found to represent one of the most evolved examples, through the analysis of its various structural components and the knowledge of its typological and technological precedents.[ES] El presente artículo se centra en la fábrica histórica de Can Bagaria en Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona. Ayuntamiento de Cornellà de LlobregatMartín, E.; Cornadó, C.; Díaz, C.; Ravetllat, P.; Vima-Grau, S. High Efficiency Power Amplifier Based on Envelope Elimination and Restoration Technique

    Get PDF
Due to complex envelope and phase modulation employed in modern transmitters it is necessary to use power amplifiers that have high linearity. Linear power amplifiers (classes A, B and AB) are commonly used, but they suffer from low efficiency especially if the transmitted signal has high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). Kahn's technique based on envelope elimination and restoration (EER) is based on idea that high efficiency power supply (envelope amplifier) could be used to modulate the envelope of high efficient non linear power amplifiers (classes D or E). This paper presents solutions for power amplifier that performs envelope modulation and class E amplifier that is used as a non linear amplifier. The envelope amplifier is implemented as a multilevel converter in series with linear regulator and can provide up to 100 W of instantaneous power and reproduce 2 MHz sine wave. The implemented Class E amplifier can operate at 120 MHz with efficiency near to 85%. The envelope amplifier and class E amplifier have been integrated and efficiency and linearity of the implemented transmitter has been measured and presente

Aprendiendo ética con simulación. Perspectiva de los alumnos sobre el aprendizaje experiencial y reflexivo de la bioética

    Get PDF

DNA variation in myoMIRs of the 1, 133, and 208 families in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

    Get PDF
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small RNAs that bind to mRNAs and regulate gene expression. MyoMirs are miRNAs implicated in cardiogenesis. Some MyoMirs have been found deregulated in hearts from patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). DNA variants at these miRNAs could contribute to the risk of developing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). To test this hypothesis we used single strand conformation analysis and direct sequencing to search for DNA variants in the mir-208a, miR-208b, miR-133a-1, miR-133a-2, miR-133b, miR-1-1, and miR-1-2 genes in patients with HCM (n=245), LVH secondary to hypertension (n=120), and healthy controls (n=250). We found several nucleotide variants. Genotyping of patients and healthy controls showed significantly associations between a 133a-1 polymorphism and HCM and a 133b polymorphism and hypertensive-LVH. We concluded that rare variants in these mature miRNAs would be rarely found among HCM patients, but miR-133a-1 and 133b polymorphisms could contribute to the risk of developing cardiac hypertrophy.this work was supported by grants from the Spanish Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias-Fondos FEDER European Union (FIS-00/0172), and Red de Investigación Renal-REDINREN (RD06/0016). Effects of Cervico-Mandibular Manual Therapy in Patients with Temporomandibular Pain Disorders and Associated Somatic Tinnitus: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

    Get PDF
Objective. This randomized clinical trial investigated the effects of adding cervico-mandibular manual therapies into an exercise and educational program on clinical outcomes in individuals with tinnitus associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Methods. Sixty-one patients with tinnitus attributed to TMD were randomized into the physiotherapy and manual therapy group or physiotherapy alone group. All patients received six sessions of physiotherapy treatment including cranio-cervical and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) exercises, self-massage, and patient education for a period of one month. Patients allocated to the manual therapy group also received cervicomandibular manual therapies targeting the TMJ and cervical and masticatory muscles. Primary outcomes included TMD pain intensity and tinnitus severity. Secondary outcomes included tinnitus-related handicap (Tinnitus Handicap Inventory [THI]), TMD-related disability (Craniofacial Pain and Disability Inventory [CF-PDI]), self-rated quality of life (12-item Short Form Health Survey [SF-12]), depressive symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI-II]), pressure pain thresholds (PPTs), and mandibular range of motion. Patients were assessed at baseline, one week, three months, and six months after intervention by a blinded assessor. Results. The adjusted analyses showed better outcomes (all, P < 0.001) in the exercise/education plus manual therapy group (large effect sizes) for TMD pain (g 2 P ¼ 0.153), tinnitus severity (g 2 P ¼ 0.233), THI (g 2 P ¼ 0.501), CF-PDI (g 2 P ¼ 0.395), BDI-II (g 2 P ¼ 0.194), PPTs (0.363< g 2 P < 0.415), and range of motion (g 2 P ¼ 0.350), but similar changes for the SF-12 (P ¼ 0.622, g 2 P ¼ 0.01) as the exercise/education alone group. Conclusions. This clinical trial found that application of cervico-mandibular manual therapies in combination with exercise and education resulted in better outcomes than application of exercise/ education alone in individuals with tinnitus attributed to TMD.post-print543 K
